Expert Witness

Jo Ann Cantú has over 26 years experience in the Maritime and Offshore Oil & Gas Industries including an active seagoing career as a deck officer through Masters, Mates & Pilots. A USCG licensed Master since 2007; her background includes operational experience on container vessels, tankers, general cargo vessels, Ro-Ro’s, LMSRs, research vessels, yard patrol craft, etc.

Her knowledge base also includes extensive experience in maritime operations, safety procedures, operations, logistics, consulting, project management, damage control and training. Captain Cantú is a USCG and IADC/NI approved technical instructor. She worked with the USCG at the National Maritime Center when it was located in Washington DC. She has extensive experience in course curriculum and the course development process. She was a Commander in the USNR and served in the United States Merchant Marine Program until 2011.

She conducts litigation support assignments to the maritime & offshore industry on personal injury, damage, and fraud investigations for insurers and attorneys. Commander Cantú also provides expert witnesses testimony on all subjects relating to the operation of vessels/MODUs and the business of shipping, accident investigation, vessel groundings and collisions, COLREGs, STCW standards, training and continuing education for mariners.

Captain Cantú earned her Bachelor’s degree in Marine Transportation from Texas A&M University at Galveston.
